School Organizational Team
Empowering Our School Community: Understanding the VVHS School Organizational Team (SOT)
At Virgin Valley High School, we believe that the strongest path to student success is paved through collaboration. Central to this mission is our School Organizational Team (SOT)—a dedicated group of parents, educators, and students working together to shape the future of our school.
But what exactly is a SOT, and why does it matter?
What is the School Organizational Team?
The SOT was established as part of a Nevada state mandate (Assembly Bill 469) to reorganize the Clark County School District (CCSD). The goal was simple but profound: to move decision-making authority closer to the students. Instead of a "one-size-fits-all" approach from a central office, the SOT allows those who know our students best—our local community—to have a direct voice in school operations.
Function and Purpose
As outlined by the Nevada Department of Education and CCSD policy, the SOT serves as an advisory body to the Principal. Its primary functions include:
-
Strategic Budgeting: The team provides input on the school’s plan of operation, which includes the annual budget. This ensures that financial resources are aligned with the specific academic needs of VVHS students.
-
Academic Planning: The SOT reviews and helps refine the School Performance Plan (SPP), focusing on measurable goals for student achievement and growth.
-
Principal Selection: In the event of a vacancy, the SOT assists the district in selecting the next leader for our school, ensuring the candidate aligns with our community's values.
-
Continuous Improvement: By meeting regularly, the team monitors progress throughout the year, suggesting adjustments to ensure we are meeting our benchmarks.
