VVHS School Dress Code

Dress Code and Appearance POLICY

Student dress, personal appearance, and conduct are required to be of such character as not to disrupt or detract from the educational environment of the school. Any style that diminishes a teacher's instructional effectiveness or disciplinary control is not acceptable. The Virgin Valley High School dress code is in accordance with CCSD Regulation 5131. The school administration shall have the right to designate which types of dress, fashion, fads, or appearance disrupt or detract from the educational program and may be a potential safety hazard.

 

The specific requirements and prohibitions are:

  • Require the wearing of shoes with soles (no house slippers or shoes with wheels).
  • Require the wearing of shirts or blouses appropriately buttoned in accordance with the design of that shirt or blouse. Length must extend beyond the belt level, with no skin showing between the bottom of the shirt/blouse and the top of pants or skirts. Midriffs must be covered.
  • Prohibit the wearing of clothing that is less than 3 inches across at the shoulder, such as tank tops, halter tops, crop tops, strapless tops, spaghetti straps, or low-cut tops. Shirts must not have arms/sides cut out (workout shirts), have slits, provide minimum coverage, or be transparent.
  • Require that all shorts or skirts be at least fingertip length.
  • Prohibit the wearing of sunglasses in the building.
  • Prohibit the wearing or possession of hats/headgear on campus except for the designated school-approved uniforms, or at authorized athletic practices or activities. (NO hats, NO hoods, NO caps, NO bandanas)  This includes special dress-up days unless permission is given by Administration. Special exemptions for medical reasons may be granted by Administration
  • Prohibits slogans, images, or advertising on clothing that are controversial or obscene by nature, or that disrupt the educational setting. (This includes but is not limited to any clothing that advertises racial bigotry and sexual activities, tabaco/vaping products, alcoholic beverages, or drugs/paraphernalia).
  • Prohibits the wearing of gloves, spiked or studded clothing or jewelry, wallet chains, or any gang-related clothing.
  • Prohibits the wearing of pants in a sagging fashion that displays private undergarments, or any attire that is not conducive to the educational setting.
  • Solid leggings are allowed. No part of the leggings may be sheer or translucent.
  • Pants with rips or holes above fingertip length MUST be worn with leggings/shorts underneath.

 

The school administration shall have the right to designate which types of dress, fashion, fads, or appearance disrupt or detract from the educational program and may be a potential safety hazard. The principal shall retain the authority to grant exceptions for spirit days, special event dress days, and school-wide free dress days. On those CCSD/school sanctioned exception days, schools will notify the students and parent/guardians of the unique dress provisions.
